Storage within 5 mi

How do I find climate-controlled storage near me?

Short answer

Find the facilities within 5 miles, then check each one's website or call to confirm climate-controlled units are available. Most chain facilities offer them, usually in indoor, multi-story buildings.

Public listings rarely say whether a facility has climate control, so it has to be confirmed unit by unit. A quick way to work through it:

  1. Open the finder and set the radius to 5 miles.
  2. Start with the indoor, multi-story buildings. Those are the most likely to have it.
  3. Open each facility's website from the listing and filter for climate-controlled units.
  4. Call and ask what temperature and humidity range they hold.

That last step matters. Temperature-controlled units only heat or cool. Climate-controlled units also manage humidity, which is what prevents mold and warping. Typical ranges run between 50 and 85 degrees, depending on the company.

Expect to pay 10% to 25% more than a standard unit. A climate-controlled 10x10 averages about $134 a month at street rates.

Not sure you need it? Wood furniture, electronics, photos, documents, mattresses and instruments usually do. Plastic bins and metal tools usually do not. Our climate control guide has the full list.
