Short answer
Yes, usually. Most facilities can rent you a unit and let you move in the same day, either online or at the office.
Same-day is easiest when you:
- Rent online in the morning. Some operators give you a gate code and have a lock waiting at the unit, so you can skip the office.
- Check office hours. If you rent in person, arrive with time to spare. Paperwork takes a while, and offices often close before the gate does.
- Bring what they need. A government-issued ID, a card for payment, and proof of insurance if you plan to use your own policy.
- Bring a lock, unless the facility includes one. Ask which lock types they allow.
Availability is the main risk. On busy weekends in summer, popular sizes can sell out. Call before you load the truck to confirm a unit in your size is open right now, not just listed online.
Open the finder, tap "Open now," and call the nearest two or three to check what they have. If you have a bit more time, see how far ahead to reserve.
